Welcome to this exclusive interview with our Vice President of Sales, Jason Bonds!
As the leader of our sales team, Jason is responsible for driving revenue growth, creating and executing our global sales strategies, and building strong relationships with our customers.
With years of experience in the industry, he brings a wealth of knowledge to our customers and the team. So, we thought we’d dive a little deeper and get to know what Jason is all about, so let’s get started.
What about your past experience at Ping Identity and Chainalysis will be relevant to your work here at Verosint?
Being at Ping Identity for almost 12 years gave me a real understanding and appreciation for the challenges companies face in trying to strike the right balance between security and usability. It also brought to light how little most leadership teams understand about the complexity of the problems and the time and money required to truly build an effective security and identity and access management program.
Chainalysis, on the other hand, gave me a ton of experience in looking at the fraud and compliance side of things. Using OSINT and other data sources to put together a storyboard of what was happening in the cryptocurrency world was mind blowing for me.
How do you approach building and maintaining relationships with key clients and stakeholders?
Every relationship needs to be win-win and be able to concretely express value. In today’s world, budgets are tight, resources are slim and expectations are only increasing. It’s imperative that my team and I understand our clients' pains, needs and business. You can't take a one-size-fits-all approach to anything.
What kind of leadership will you bring to the team?
I am an enabler of the team. I like to lead by example and provide the team what they need to be successful. There should be very few things that “only I can do.” Scale is everything – if your team can’t scale and be empowered, you will fail.
Why did you decide to join Verosint?
First, the people. I have worked with almost half the company in my prior jobs at Ping and Chainalysis. Second, the account fraud prevention solution we provide is the right solution at the right time for the market. There are plenty of online fraud prevention and detection solutions available, but many of the approaches are outdated, slow to implement or acutely focused on payment fraud or bots specifically.
What are your top priorities in your first 100 days of the job?
We just launched the new company name to better reflect our brand and patent-pending technology. Next we will continue to build awareness in the market and expand our reach. I am also focused on building out the sales team quickly! (Anyone looking for an incredible career opportunity?!)
What is your superpower that will help you succeed at helping our customers put an end to account fraud?
Empathy, I have been in their shoes and I understand their challenges are not just technical. Many times, I feel like I know what they’re going to say before they say it. This really helps me to provide the best solution to fit their needs and to be able to anticipate what they’ll need longer term.
What’s your favorite feature of the Verosint platform?
As of now, it is the flexibility and quantity of different risk signals a customer can develop rules to help orchestrate security flows. (If you want to see a demo, request one and I’ll be happy to share it with you.)
What do you believe is the biggest challenge for digital businesses today?
Everything is a possible target and the threats are only increasing. The end users want everything to be FaceID easy even when it isn’t possible or in their best interest. We basically have diabolically opposed wants and needs between end users and security professionals.
Have you ever been the victim of account fraud, esp account fraud? Or, what account fraud story in the news really hit close to home for you?
Yes, I have had my Gmail, Facebook and other things hacked. The most annoying one is that someone creates a Facebook profile with my Facebook images and then starts trying to invite my friends. Facebook wouldn’t take it down even when I had friends flag it as malicious. Although it wasn’t a severe impact on my finances, it affected my online reputation and relationships and that was frustrating.
Tell us about your life outside of Verosint and being the head of sales.
I live in Fort Myers, Florida on the water with my wife. We have 3 daughters - my oldest is finishing her MBA at University of Kentucky, our 19 is a sophomore at University of Kansas, and our youngest is a sophomore in high school. So, that keeps us pretty busy - along with this new job at Verosint. ;-) .
Living between Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel Island, we’re fortunate to survive the recent hurricane. We love to go out on our boat and fish, swim and take sunset cruises. To stay active, I keep bees, golf and play tennis.
